On the Cutting Edge:  Glass Art in Seattle

Seattle is a vibrant center for Pacific Northwest glass artists whose inventive work has drawn accolades world-wide.  Study Leader Lloyd Herman examines this exciting art form and accompanies you on exclusive tours to artists’ studios, galleries, museums and private collections. 

Highlights:

  • Tour Dale Chihuly's Ballard Studio, which houses the mock-up facilities where Chihuly's large-scale architectural installations are composed. At the Ballard location guests will also have the opportunity to experience the Studio's private gallery space that includes a unique Chihuly Sealife Aquarium. 

  • Watch artists at work during a guided tour of the internationally renowned Pilchuck Glass School.

  • Visit the fascinating studio of Benjamin and Debora Moore, leading studio glass artists and watch Preston Singletary blow glass. 

  • Experience the home and studio space of world famous glass artists Jenny Pohlman and Sabrina Knowles, many of whose works depict the roles of women in ancient cultures. 

  • Visit the Museum of Glass in nearby Tacoma, showcasing Dale Chihuly’s creation of a 500-foot pedestrian bridge filled with his glass art.

  • Tour the newly expanded Seattle Art Museum and Sculpture Park.

  • Visit a prominent glass collector in a stunning Seattle residence.
